Candy Hearts and Valentines Day Suprises. Page 2
Blayne Edwards Tell us about The Sanguine Series…why did you write it? And what inspired your vampires? I love to be scared. I love the rush of adrenaline and the uncertainty fear provides. And for me, the scariest things are things that could actually be true. I also think the rush of fear is a lot like the rush of sex and so - the logical thing for an adrenaline junkie to do is combine the two. It's like finding the most potent form of natural high or that unspeakable tighter hole. *wink* So my vampires - just like my werewolves - come to be in a natural way. Nature is an endless source of information and inspiration for me - or for anyone really - and a virus could indeed create such a person. I made them just one step away from AIDS partially because the HIV virus is one of the most frightening things known to mankind, and as somewhat of a social statement against the prejudice still surrounding people with AIDS. As far as the inspiration behind Sanguine, it's based on trying to help a friend overcome a drug addiction and a very debilitating episode of depression. The virus is actually his mental illness. His "demon". So are you Madeline? Somewhat…..lol. Maybe not as compassionate because I have a twisted sense of loyalty to the real live virus and the things it forces my friend to create despite what it does to him as a human being. I also have a much nastier potty mouth than Madeline does. Who's your favorite character you've ever written? The virus. Definitely. I think he's that Hannibal Lector combination of fascinating and deadly and that combination scares the bejesus out of me. Such characters test the trust you have in your own judgment and when that's unstable... What new characters are you working on? New books? Werewolves Sabine and Caleb will be introduced in "Mine - which by the way is being released for Valentine's Day by Changeling Press. Sabine is Lara Croft with very well styled fur. She's brilliant and independent and the kind of bitch I suspect all of us women really want to be. Caleb is a "My way or My way cause the highway doesn't run through this wolf's territory" sort of alpha male and so of course when two such headstrong animals meet... There's also a guest appearance by a certain displaced alpha male by the name of Luke Caine. Just to give a hint as to what he's been up to for the past year or so. So is poor Luke going to finally get laid? LOL Ooooooohhhhh……yesssssssssss. Luke is indeed going to be the happily howling recipient of some doggy style action behind *giggles* the namesake of my favorite little bitch in the whole wide world, Dane Bailey. So Dane Bailey is…… My Eastern Grey Timberwolf. The absolute love of my life. *sighs* What does your husband think of that statement? You mean when I can get between him and the bitch? LOL She's the love of my life but she can charm her daddy into giving her anything she wants. Wolves are unbelievably intelligent and emotional animals. And my "little" *mumbles….100 pound* bitch is an incurable flirt. Speaking of a Valentine's release with Changeling Press, what made you choose Changeling as a Publisher? My decision to go to Changeling Press was simply because they gave me something I never even dreamed of finding while trying to publish. COMPLETE creative freedom. I never realized being creative could be such a liability until I started trying to publish and was actually told by one very large publishing house, "You're too dark! Our readers don't like to be scared!" Margaret and Pat at Changeling Press not only recognize that creative freedom is the most important thing to allow if you want new and innovative stories, but they also push those of us who seem to have less conventional styles to become even more of what we were really meant to be. You mean sick, twisted and perverted beyond all human decency? LMAO…….well add the ability to bake biscuits and bear babies and you've the most delightful little traits any proper Southern Belle can have, doncha? *bats eyelashes* Actually my Nazi "Ve vant perfect perversion from you, Blaynie!!!" editor, Pat Hitler….I mean Haley's idea of a wet dream is to be forced to hide under the bed within two pages of editing a new book. Er...O.K. So what made you become a "writer"? I think the term "writer" is thrown around in places where it doesn't belong. I know some people may want to crucify me for saying this because it's not polite to make discouraging statements to anyone who wants to do something but - I don't believe simply learning how to string words together in a way that tells a story makes someone a writer. I think writers are born and it's a matter of realizing that's what you are. If you are one, writing is an urge - just like hunger or thirst or sex. It's not a choice. I believe every real writer knows if they don't write, a part of them will die. Maybe that's the deciding factor. So when did you "know" you were a writer? Green Eggs And Ham…..LOL.I was three years old and even I saw that the man was a genius. It was the way his combination of words and phrases and the rhythm he was able to produce without sound made me feel more alive So the doctor who delivered Blayne Edwards was named Seuss? LOL….Yeah. I guess so. Readers can reach Blayne by writing to her at blayne@changelingpress.com. You can also visit her cyber home at http://www.blayneedwards.com.
